Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief (2010) is a fun fantasy-adventure that follows Percy Jackson, a teenager who discovers that he is the son of Poseidon and has been pulled into the dangerous world of Greek mythology. After Zeus’s powerful lightning bolt is stolen, Percy embarks on a journey with his friends Grover and Annabeth to find it and prevent a war between the gods. The movie has plenty of action, mythology, humor, and memorable characters, although it takes some major liberties with Rick Riordan’s original novel. While it received mixed reviews from critics, it remains an entertaining introduction to the Percy Jackson universe and has developed a nostalgic following over the years. I’d give it 4/5 for its adventure, cast, and overall entertainment value.
